CA CPT - Common Proficiency Test is the entry level Test for pursuing the Chartered Accountancy (professional accounting) course. To become a CA the students need to clear the entrance exam that is CPT which is an abbreviation for Common Proficiency Test and is conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI). Students who have cleared their HSC or graduation can apply for this test. These tests are conducted throughout India, twice a year in the month of June and December. The paper is out of 200 marks and the questions asked are objective type with negative marking for every wrong answer. The minimum percentage required by the students to clear CPT is 50% after which they can appear for the further exams.

CA CPT 2013 Pattern:-

The institute conducts Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test (CA CPT Exam) in two modes: Paper Pencil Mode of Examination and Online Registration Mode of Examination. The general examination pattern of CA CPT Exam is given in the following lines.
 

• Paper Pencil Mode of Examination is conducted in morning session and evening session with each carrying two parts.
• For Online Registration Mode of Examination, the students have to fill an examination form Online and then, this examination is held at various centers across India.
• The entrance test consists of objective type questions.
• The medium of all the questions and instructions is English.
• The question paper follows negative marking scheme, which means one fourth mark is deducted for every wrong answer.

CA CPT 2013 Eligibility:-

The candidate who has passed 10+2 can appear in CA - CPT exam. The candidate who is awaiting for their results for 10+2 may also appear in CA - CPT exam.

The higer qualified candidate who has completed their graduation i.e. B.com, M.com, ICWA can appear for CA - CPT exam.

(b) A candidate who is already registered for Professional Education-I Course with Board of Studies of ICAI and switched over to CPT course on or before 1st October 2009 will also be eligible to appear in December CPT.

Requirement for Passing the Common Proficiency Test:-

A candidate shall ordinarily be declared to have passed the Common Proficiency Test if he obtains at one sitting a minimum of 50 percent marks in the aggregate of all the four subjects/sections comprised in CPT (Examination), subject to the principle of negative marking.

It is clarified that there is no requirement of securing minimum passing marks in a subject/section of CPT examination.

There will be negative marking for each wrong answer. 1/4 (One Fourth) mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Please note that multiple darkened circles for a question will also be treated as wrong answer.

Any fraction of mark in aggregate will be rounded off to the next full mark. It is clarified that there is no provision for improvement of result CPT examination in the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988.

Therefore, such students who have once passed the CPT examination are not eligible to apply/appear afresh/again in the CPT examination.

CA CPT Preparation Tips/ Techniques:-

1) IF ur not from Maths background, then plz keep it in ur mind that u have to get passing marks out of 150.

2) Before Starting revision any chapter of accounts, first study whole theory of that chapter and then only solve 1 or two questions from examples. But solve Maximum questions from EXERCISE.

3) Prepare Mercantile Law Very well, because it was the only scoring subject after accounts. Contract Act is important one.

4)In economics 1st complete Macro economics then go for micro economics. Macro Economics aslo very scoring.

5) IN Quantitative Aptitude, Differentiation and integration, Correlation and regression and theoritical distribution is important one.

6) And make the Strategy to solve M. LAW paper 1st in examination, because u will get more time to solve accounts.

7) Please work hard in studies, because there is no Short cuts for Success. But u can do ur work Systematically, Which will help u 2 go to the path of Success.
