CAT 2013 Important Dates / Notification:-
CAT Exam 2012-13 will be held from October 11, 2012 to November 6, 2012

CAT 2013 Paper Pattern:-

The CAT 2013 will have only two sections. The first section is Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second section is Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. These two sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time limits. The examination will be 140 minutes. Candidates will have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section which will have an on-screen countdown timer. Within the 70 min provided for the section, candidates can review the answers. Once the time ends for the first section, they will move to the second section and will no longer be able to go back.

A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through that carefully before starting the main examination. The total duration will be two hours and thirty five minutes including the tutorial. A practice test to provide candidates with a feel of the timed sections, as well as navigation and functionality of the actual test will be made available in the coming weeks. Once again candidates are advised to go though them carefully to familiarise themselves with the screens, layout, and navigation.

CAT 2013 Eligibility:-

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50 per cent marks or equivalent CGPA. For candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) candidates, the eligibility percentage is 45 percent.

Candidates in the final year of graduation can also apply provided they can submit a certificate of their eligibility latest by June 30, 2012 from the Principal/Registrar of his or her college stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements of obtaining the Bachelor’s Degree on the date of the issue of the certificate.

CAT Exam Preparation Tips / Tricks / Techniques:-

  • Concept learning:- Firstly, one needs to understand that the basic skills and areas assessed in the CAT will remain the same even if the CAT authorities have changed the test-taking mode of CAT to a computer based format. Make a list of all concepts that have been assessed in the previous CATs. Make a preliminary analysis of your strengths and weaknesses with regards to these concepts.
  • Continue reading till the last day. Do not stop.
  • Memory training exercises and playing Mind Training games like sudoku are particularly helpful in solving the analytical problems in a exam Like CAT that requires analytical and reasoning ability more than anything else.
  • Focus on Grammar. The weight-age for the same is increasing day by day.
  • For Quantitative Areas Questions focus on Geometry and Number systems. Number Systems have always been an important chapter from the point of view of CAT and Geometry has gained a lot over the last 2 years.
  • The major implication of the CAT going online is that you would now need to get acclimatised to a computer-based testing environment. This would mean that you should now be comfortable using the keyboard/ mouse while taking a test on the computer.
