West Bengal Police is accountable for maintaining law & order, prevention & detention of Crime in the state of West Bengal. The jurisdiction extends to the entire state of West Bengal excluding Kolkatta as the latter has its own police force namely, Kolkatta Police. The state of West Bengal is divided into three police zones, these Zones have further been divided into eight Police Ranges including one Railways range. To protect local people and detect crime in the best approach, West Bengal Police always looks for those candidates who can fulfill the physical and educational requirements for different positions under it. The selection of candidates will be done on the basis of marks scored in Physical Examination and Written Test, followed by Interviews for those who are shortlisted.
West Bengal Police Recruitment 2012-13
1) Constable
Age Limite:- Not less than 18 years and not more than 27 years.
Educational Qulification:- Minimum Educational Qualifications: Passed in Madhyamik Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or it’s equivalent
Method of recruitment:-
By Selection (direct recruitment) inviting applications through advertisement published in local dailies etc. Recruitment will be made on the basis of qualifying the Physical Measurement and Physical Efficiency tests followed by Written Test and interview to be conducted by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board.
Physical Efficiency Test:-
(a) Long distance run 1600 Meters. (Qualifying time is 06 minute 30 seconds);
(b) The venue for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be decided by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board;
2) Lady Constable
Age Limite:- Not less than 18 years and not more than 27 years.
Educational Qulifications:- Minimum Educational Qualifications: Passed in Madhyamik Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or it’s equivalent.
Method of Recruitment:
By selection(direct recruitment) inviting applications through advertisement published in local dailies etc. Recruitment will be made on the basis of qualifying the physical measurement and physical efficiency tests followed by written test and interview to be conducted by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board;

(a) Long distance run 400 Meters (Qualifying time is 02 minute);
(b) The venue for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be decided by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board.
